PND69 Absence Benefit Utilization, Duration of Leaves, and Payments Vary By Benefit and over Time for Short- and Long-Term Disability and Workers' Compensation for Employees with Headaches and Migraines in the United States

Use objective data to compare the prevalence of Headaches/Migraines (HA/MIG), HA/MIG patients’ all-cause utilization short-and-long-term disability(STD-and-LTD, respectively) and workers' compensation (WC), explore changes over time. Retrospective analysis using WorkPartners Research Reference Database (RRDb) from 2001—2019. For each year, subjects with medical-claims for were identified based on claim-start-date. absence-benefit analysis-focused percent eligible HA/MIG-employees utilizing benefit, leave-length (days) payments as a %-of-salary (MedianPay). Years compared baseline(2001). Disability/WC-payments included lump-sum-distributions potentially-extended beyond year initially incurred. Workplace-accidents paid under WC-benefit. WC-claims without absence work(medical only)were excluded. Because sick-leave (SL) may be taken any reason, leaves-and-payments SL-benefit average MedianPay calculated baseline. The averaged 3.6%. From 2002—2019, 10.1%—16.3% eligibles that lasted 80.4%—122.4% baseline days (BDs) 71.4%—127.6% MedianPay. 0.7%—1.7% 64.3%—637.4% BDs 75.6%—217.6% 0.7%—1.8% 83.9%—279.6% 74.2%—2017.1% was highest in 2013 STD, 2002 LTD, 2005 WC.
